After the stencils

After creating the stencils i moved onto creating the stencil decorations, i started with the water gun as it was what looked the more difficult decoration to create, it proved to be as i had to create it from scratch using the pen tool and wanted it to be colourful and bright, once finished i placed it on  top of the African boy soldier image i had created.

Screen shots of progress

Below are some print screens of development of my images into stencils. The process i used was to paint on a new layer in Photoshop the areas i wanted to be black and left space for the areas i wanted to be white. After i had created the rough painted outlines of my stencil i transferred the image layer over to Illustrator. In Illustrator i proceeded to use the pen tool to create a vector image of my stencil. I did this so that i could use the image at any size without ruining quality.

In Photshop i painted the stencil over the photo

Method for Posters

For both images i have decided to create the powerful images into simple black and white stencils so that the other image i.e. the Water gun will be in colour to highlight the change and create a more powerful image that focuses in on the issues. I want to attempt to make the image recognisable with no text needed as Banksy dose with so much of his imagery.

1st Poster idea

For my first image i have decided to use a picture of a child soldier from Africa, create a stencil and swap the weapon he is carrying (an AK 47) to that of a modern day super soaker water gun, this to create the awareness to the issues currently plague Africa and other regions of the world and to express how fortunate are children here are in comparison to those there.

2nd Poster idea

My second poster is to be of the Iraqi PoW who was tortured by electrocution while being detained by US forces. The famous image gave me an idea as it had been Christmas it almost seems that’s the war and its issues are forgotten due to our festivities, to mock the current differences i have decided to replicate this image into a stencil and then to decorate the PoW with Christmas tree decorations.

Ideas

For my pieces, that are to be influenced by Banksy i have decided to create so stencil images of my own, using Photoshop and illustrator i intend to create some politically thought provoking stencils that i can superimpose onto wall images as though to create an in situ image.

My Choice

After having looked around i have chosen to do my time capsule on Banksy, the famous Graffiti/street artist. Banksy is an artist who in my eyes is one of the most interesting and versatile artists of our time. His street work being found all over the world, from wrecked homes in post- hurricane Katrina in New Orleans to the partition wall in the Gaza strip. His art usually carries a political message either in a satirical form as shown in his image Napalm (seen below) where he has used the infamous image of a young girl in Vietnam after her village was napalmed. He has taken the image and incorporated Ronald Mc Donald and Mickey Mouse.  His reputation for hiding his identity has only fuelled his rise in the art work even further, with his works now being sold for tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds.
